AI Flashcard Maker: Turn Your Notes Into a Deck in 30 Seconds
Revizly's flashcard generator turns a class (PDF, photo, pasted text, DOCX, PPTX or a YouTube video) into question-and-answer cards in about 30 seconds, then schedules reviews with spaced repetition (the FSRS algorithm). It's built for high school and college students and language learners. Two classes a month are free; after that, the Essential plan is $6.99 a month.
What's in a generated flashcard deck?
You upload the material. Revizly writes, sorts and schedules the cards.
Written from your material
Question-and-answer cards built from your own slides, notes or PDF, organized by topic.
Ready in about 30 seconds
A whole lecture becomes a deck before you'd finish typing the first five cards.
Spaced repetition
Cards you know come back less often. Cards you miss come back soon.
Anki export
On Premium, export any deck as an Anki file and keep studying in the app you already use.
How does the flashcard generator work?
Upload your material
A PDF, PowerPoint slides, a Word doc, photos of your notes, a YouTube lecture or pasted text
Revizly writes the cards
One clear question per card with a short answer, sorted by topic
Study a few minutes a day
Flip, answer, and let spaced repetition decide what comes back
Which formats work, and what does it cost?
One upload is enough: from the same class, Revizly builds the study sheet, the flashcards and the practice quiz. The times below are typical averages.
| Class format | How it's read | What you get | Typical time | Free plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PDF (lecture notes, handouts, scans) | Text is extracted from the file; scanned PDFs go through OCR | Study sheet, flashcards, practice quiz | About 30 seconds | Yes |
| Photo (JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC) | OCR on handwritten or printed notes | Study sheet, flashcards, practice quiz | About 30 seconds after OCR | Yes |
| Pasted text | Used as is | Study sheet, flashcards, practice quiz | About 30 seconds | Yes |
| DOCX (Word) | Text of the document | Study sheet, flashcards, practice quiz | About 30 seconds | Yes |
| PPTX (PowerPoint) | Text of the slides | Study sheet, flashcards, practice quiz | About 30 seconds | Yes |
| YouTube video | The video's captions | Study sheet, flashcards, practice quiz | About 30 seconds once the captions are fetched | Yes |
How much does it cost?
- Free: 2 classes a month, no credit card. The first class is complete; later ones show the first two chapters of the study sheet, 4 quiz questions and up to 4 flashcards.
- Essential: $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year, 20 classes a month, complete study sheets, quizzes and flashcards, PDF export.
- Premium: $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, unlimited classes (up to 50 a day), PDF and Anki export.
Why use an AI flashcard generator?
How does the built-in spaced repetition work?
Revizly schedules your cards with FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler), the same algorithm recent versions of Anki offer. There's nothing to set up: every time you answer a card, the app works out when you should see it next.
Without review, you forget most of what you learn within days. That's the forgetting curve, first described by Hermann Ebbinghaus. Spaced repetition fights it by bringing each card back right before you'd forget it, with a longer gap each time: a day, a few days, a week, a few weeks.
FSRS algorithm
It estimates when you're about to forget each card and schedules the review just before that point.
Less time, better recall
Spreading practice out beats cramming in study after study. You spend a few minutes a day instead of hours the night before.
Built for the final
Gaps grow from a day to several weeks, so what you learn in September is still there in December.
Adapts to you
Cards you miss come back more often. Cards you know get spaced further and further apart.
Flashcards for every class
It works from whatever you upload, from intro classes to grad school.
Nursing and med school
Anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology. Useful for class exams and for the long haul toward the NCLEX, USMLE or boards.
Languages
Vocabulary, verb forms and phrases for Spanish, French, German and more.
Law and political science
Definitions, landmark cases and key doctrines, one card at a time.
Science
Formulas, definitions and processes in biology, chemistry and physics.
AI flashcard maker FAQ
What is an AI flashcard maker?
It's a tool that writes flashcards for you. Instead of typing every question and answer, you upload your class material and the AI turns it into a deck of question-and-answer cards. Revizly then schedules the deck with spaced repetition, so you know what to study each day.
How does the flashcard generator work?
Upload a PDF, PowerPoint slides, a Word doc, photos of your notes, a YouTube link or pasted text. Revizly reads it, splits it into topics in the order your class covers them, and writes a question-and-answer card for each key idea. It takes about 30 seconds.
Can I export my flashcards to Anki?
Yes, on Premium. You can export any deck as an Anki file and import it into Anki on your computer or phone. Your very first class includes Anki export too, so you can try it before you pay.
Does it work for every subject?
It works from whatever you upload, so anatomy, pharmacology, history, law, chemistry and language classes all work. In a language class, the words you're learning stay in that language instead of getting translated away.
Is the flashcard maker free?
Yes, there's a free plan. It covers 2 classes a month with a short preview deck for each, and your very first class is made in full. Essential ($6.99 a month) gives you full decks for 20 classes a month. Premium ($9.99 a month) adds unlimited classes, fresh decks on demand and Anki export.

Stop typing flashcards
Upload your notes and start studying a deck built from them in about 30 seconds.
Make my first deckFlashcards from your class, not someone else's
Typing a deck for one lecture takes an hour or two. Searching for a public set is faster, but it was built for someone else's class. An AI flashcard generator gives you a deck from your own material in about 30 seconds.
What is a flashcard?
A card with a question on the front and the answer on the back. You read the question, try to answer from memory, then flip. That small act of recall is what makes flashcards work: it strengthens memory far more than rereading your notes.
Why flashcards work
They combine the two study techniques with the most research behind them: active recall (answering from memory) and spaced repetition (reviewing at growing intervals). Rereading and highlighting feel productive, but they don't hold up as well on exam day.
How to study your deck
Do a few minutes every day instead of one long session the night before. Answer each card honestly before you flip it. Revizly brings the cards you missed back soon and pushes the ones you know further out, so your time goes to what you haven't learned yet.
